About: Approximately 16 and a half years ago, I started working as a doctor in the Proyecto Epidemiológico Guanacaste, now the Agencia Costarricense de Investigaciones Biomédicas. This is a Costa Rican organization mainly dedicated to biomedical research and to conducting studies related to Human Papilloma Virus, cervical cancer and its prevention. In recent years, it has also conducted studies on different types of cancer (gastric, breast) and COVID 19. During this time, I have been learning more and more about biomedical research, something that was new to me at first, and also about its significant impact on people’s health. Over time, witnessing the organization’s enormous contribution to health both locally and globally has greatly aroused my interest and I want to dedicate myself to this work permanently. The contribution generated by this organization focused on human welfare and knowing that I am part of such contribution motivates me every day to give my best and makes me feel very proud of what we do.
